Welcome to dotProject.net

The home of dotProject - the Open Source Project Management tool.

dotProject is a volunteer supported Project Management application. There is no "company" behind this project, it is managed, maintained, developed and supported by a volunteer group and by the users themselves.

For more about the product, what it does, etc please follow the links to the doc site at the top of site.

The software is free to anyone who would like to download it. Day to day support is provided free by volunteers.

If you would like to see the system in operation - use the Demo link in the modules list to the left top of the site.

Dotproject concrètement ?

Originally commenced in 2000 by dotmarketing.org, dotProject was developed as a state of the art Project Management tool from the start.

The original theme (still available in the first release of 2005) flagged dotProject as an open source alternative to Microsoft products and other expensive, commercial applications.

Right from the start, dotProject had, as it's core aims a number of simple requirements:

* Clean, simple and consistent user interface;

* Project Management functionality - not another CMS, groupware environment or all things to all people collaboration tool, but a project management environment;

* Open source / open access / free usage.

And right up until the current day, these aims remain the core aim of the current administration team.

Sure, we still have some functionality that is required, but over the years, dotProject has undergone some formidable updates, additions and code changes and we fully intend to keep that activity up, with the ongoing support of our user community.

Features Include

  • User Management
  • Email based trouble Ticket System, (Integrated voxel.net's ticketsmith)
  • Client/Company Management
  • Project listings
  • Hierarchical Task List
  • File Repository
  • Contact List
  • Calendar
  • Discussion Forum
  • Resource Based Permissions
  •

    Démonstration ?

Thank you for your interest in our web-based project management tool.

dotProject is built using free open-source applications and is produced and maintained by a small, but dedicated group of volunteers. dotProject is programmed in PHP, and utilises MySQL for a backend database (although other databases such as Postgres could also be used). Our recommended server platform includes Apache 1.3.27, PHP 4.2+, and MySQL. In the spirit of free, peer-reviewed, open source application development, we would also encourage you to use an operating system such as Linux, FreeBSD, or OpenBSD. However, additional operating systems such as Windows, Mac, and other flavours of *nix are also supported.

    DOTPROJECT DEMO

Our dotProject Demo can be accessed at http://www.dotproject.net/demo/

    ADMIN Access

This will let you do just about anything except administer the users themselves.

    Username: admin

    Password: admin

Don't reset the password - it just inconveniences others in the short term.

    GUEST Access

This is a restricted READ-ONLY USER and lets you see how the permissions work.

    Username: guest

    Password: guest

Don't reset the password - it just inconveniences others in the short term.

    DISABLED Components

Tasks and tickets normally email details to the appropriate user upon creation, amendment and followup. This functionality has been turned off in this demo.

Do not use the demo site as a data repository

We reload the demonstration database nightly so please don't try to use it as a test site or set up examples to then show others as your data will disappear. The update is done automatically so we don't even know what is removed when it happens and we won't be doing any special backups or anything for anyone who does attempt this.

    Errors on Uploading Files

File uploads are disabled by turning off permissions on the associated directories. Don't try to upload files please - error message will result.

    Problems Logging into the Demo?

Unfortunately we sometimes get people fiddling around changing passwords etc on the demo logins. We reload the demo nightly to try to get around this but sometimes it means that the demo's not available. Please don't log this as a bug report in Mantis or in the forums - by the time anyone reads the message chances are the reload has occurred and besides that - life's too short to keep resetting passwords that others think are fun to change. If everyone is inconvenienced then we apologise to the majority but alas we can't protect us all the time from the thoughtlessness of the minority.

We also don't intend writing special functions to disable a standard part of dotProject just so that this is not possible on the demo.
